River City Pride Center is a community-rooted organization filling a real gap — a central, welcoming front door for LGBTQ+ Richmonders who need to find services, connection, and support.
Richmond has a vibrant, growing LGBTQ+ community and a strong ecosystem of organizations doing important work. But there's a gap. If a queer Richmonder needs health care, housing help, mental health support, and a community event — they're navigating four different organizations, four different websites, and four different intake processes.
River City Pride Center is the connective tissue. We're not here to replace or compete with the organizations already doing great work across Richmond. We're here to be the front door that helps people find them, navigate them, and when needed, connect across them.
We're in our founding phase. The org is being built with and for the community — through listening sessions, a community advisory committee, and a board that will reflect the people we serve.
"Richmond deserves a place where any LGBTQ+ person can walk in — or log on — and find what they need without having to already know where to look. That's what we're building."
Every decision is made with the community's needs at the center. Not funders, not optics — the people we serve.
We exist to strengthen Richmond's LGBTQ+ ecosystem, not to compete within it. Our success is shared success.
We serve the full spectrum of LGBTQ+ identity — and we're intentional about centering those most often left out, including BIPOC and trans community members.
We're building governance structures that keep us honest — a community advisory committee, transparent financials, and a board with lived experience requirements.
RCPC's bylaws require that a majority of board members hold lived LGBTQ+ experience. The board governs; staff operate. Community voice is built into our structure through a Community Advisory Committee — not as an afterthought, but as a founding principle.
We're in the process of recruiting founding board members who bring lived experience, professional expertise, and deep roots in the Richmond community.
